An environment with an amazing biodiversity
FLORA
The plant life of the Montioni Nature Park is characterised by mixed woodland of deciduous trees, mainly turkey oaks, above all in cool and deep substrata on the valley floors.
Climbing up, the turkey oaks are replaced mainly by holm oaks. In the turkey oak grove there are also manna ashes and, less frequently, cork trees. In the lower strata there are also bushes of phillyrea and heather. Field elms grow mainly along the banks of the rivers and streams.
Vegetation associations called “garrigue”, characterised by sparse shrubs and many herbaceous plants, grow in the cultivated land that has been abandoned for many years.
FAUNA
There is a great variety of fauna in the Montioni Nature Park given that the woodland in the protected area covers a vast surface area with hardly any infrastructure or houses. These are ideal conditions for the undisturbed growth of many species including fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar and others, such as weasels, foxes, hedgehogs and porcupines.
