61 works of a leading light of twentieth century Italian art
The Carlo Guarnieri Museum, located on the first floor of Palazzo Pretorio, is the fruit of a kind donation by the artist’s family: 61 works including 36 wood engravings with their stencils, 7 studies and sketches and 18 paintings are on display in the five rooms.
It is an important collection that encompasses the entire creative life of the artist, one of the leading lights of early twentieth century Italian art.
In his engravings, like in his paintings, we relive a unique story: there is the drama of war – which would define the life and works of Guarnieri – but also the magnificent Tuscan landscape, the Art Deco influences and all the elements of an innovative art that would then be used during the fortunate experience of Futurism.
His passion is the heart around which the sense of the exhibition rotates, going far beyond the celebratory and deserved appreciation of a home town for its illustrious son.
The works of Maestro Guarnieri, which have travelled all over the world and have been displayed in the most important international exhibitions and galleries, have now returned home, to the medieval town of Campiglia Marittima.
