The Villa Lanzi Documentation Centre
Villa Lanzi is a 16th building (1556) commissioned by Cosimo I De’ Medici, to house miners from Germany, brought to Italy to work in the Campiglia mines.
The structure is now a two-storey horseshoe-shaped building with central courtyard.
The Villa, located next to the Palazzo Gowett Hostel in Valle Lanzi, faces the Rocca di San Silvestro and is now the centre for the collection and conservation of documentation concerning the studies, researches and projects regarding the territory of Val di Cornia, with special reference to the Parks system.
It also conserves in its Archives the complete historical documentation from the last mining company (Miniera di Campiglia S.p.A) to operate at Campiglia between the 1950s and 1970s.
Immersed in the peace and quiet of the hills around Campiglia Marittima and with large and luminous rooms, Villa Lanzi is also the ideal place for training courses, seminars, round tables and conferences, workshops for primary and secondary schools, company meetings or conventions and other recreational activities.
Villa Lanzi Centre is open all year round on request.
